One Mega Event marks a successful beginning

One Mega Event not only brought new technologies to the fore but created an optimistic furore with a host of innovative and creative solutions on display for the development of smart cities.
Delivering the inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Shri Rajiv Gauba, I.A.S., Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development, said: “The Smart Cities Mission has come to represent urban transformation and it’s very interesting to see the kind of ground work being undertaken. The idea of smart cities would no doubt boost business, and the economy of the country.”
Maintaining that events and exhibitions are vital for growth, Shri L.C. Goyal, IAS, Chairman & Managing Director, ITPO, said: “Smart cities are built with smart infrastructure and, I hope, ITPO will soon witness world-class expositions.”
Companies from across the globe gathered at the three-day show, hoping to secure a showcase for the most adaptive street lights, innovative solar systems, intelligent

building materials, low-cost sensors, WIFI-enabled smart devices, connected vehicles, eco-friendly electric rickshaws…

During the session, Smart Village Conclave: Bridging the Gap between Rural and Urban, Dr. Udit Raj, Member of Parliament, was explicit about the social problems prevalent in villages. “Orthodox practices in villages lead to gender separation.

While males are meant for productive activities, females are confined to homely work. Such social norms need to be addressed to bring about positive change. The society should take the initiative.”

The second Smart Cities India Awards 2017 were presented to individuals, policy makers, companies, government bodies and associations who have contributed the most to the Smart Cities Mission.

Around two hundred entries were received at the second edition of the awards with 12 winners under 10 categories. The three Jury Excellence Awards were awarded to Sterlite Technologies, Larsen & Toubro Ltd and Surat Municipal Corporation.

More than 15,000 visitors thronged the various innovative booths set up by leading global players such as Oracle, Hitachi, Ericsson, among others.

Exhibitors were overwhelmed by the footfall count, and the business opportunities One Mega Event provided.

“There was extensive participation from officials representing Indian cities, and next year, we expect to engage with even more national and international, industry leaders, state and local government officials, decision makers, financiers, technologists, trade groups, academics, researchers and non-profit and social organisations,” said Mr Prem Behl, Chairman, Exhibitions India Group.
